Comfort and Judgment
Posted by: David V in Uncategorized, tags: 2 Thessalonians 1:6-10, Eschatology, NKJVPaul provides encouragement to the Thessalonians in II Thessalonians 1:6-10 concerning Christ’s return. One theme I have noticed about eschatology is that there are two strong themes: comfort and judgment. Christ brings comfort to those who love Him and judgment upon those who hate Him. In the passage in II Thessalonians there is strong emphasis on those who hate Christ by hating His body as it is in Matthew 25:31-46 in the passage about Jesus separating the sheep from the goats.
One description of Christ’s return in this passage is that He is revealed from heaven with His might angels in flaming fire. This is clearly describing Him coming with great power. One aspect of this coming is power. The other aspect found here is judgment on His enemies. So we look forward to a day where Christ comes in power to judge His enemies and to bring relief to us.
